This disc rotor represents an evolution of the X-Rotor SteelCarbon 2 model, which gained widespread acclaim among MTB and road enthusiasts since its debut in 2015. It is made for fixing on Center Lock hubs and ensures direct and efficient compatibility. Superlight semi-floating disc rotor with a steel braking surface, a carbon fiber inner body, an Al7075 Center Lock specific Adapter, a laser-engraved titanium protection plate, and fixing rivets.
The disc rotors now feature a profile with rounded CNC-machined edges, that increase safety and comply with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regulations. 1.8 mm thick special steel track has been redesigned to improve braking performance, enhance heat dissipation, and enable more even pad wear. The rivets and washers are made of Grade 5 titanium and represent a highly technical solution, in line with previous versions, ensuring high lightness, strength, and reliability.
It is provided with an extremely low profile lock-ring, which offers wide compatibility with hubs equipped with 12, 15, or 20 mm thru-axles.
It can be used with any pad. Made in Italy. These 6-bolt mountain sets feature the same precision manufacturing and robust feature set of past models.
Competitors use a more simple axle system with end caps, whereas Chris King uses one-piece solid axles without end caps which provides the stiffest interface with your frame. Delivering every possible watt from the drivetrain to dirt, you’ll no longer be an outsider wondering what all the fuss was about. Heavy duty bearing seals and precision manufactured parts will do their part to keep the mud and water from getting inside the hub shell and bearings, so they will keep running smooth for longer than competitors hubs.
Chris King’s unique RingDrive system in their rear hubs utilizes heat-treated stainless-steel drive and driven rings which handle massive torque loads (over 800 ft/lbs). Road hubs have 45 points of engagement, low drag, and a very solid feeling when you stomp on the pedals. The engagement mechanism lives inside the hub shell which allows it to have more contact area than would be possible with a traditional freehub design which lives outside of the hub shell.
Bearings are one of those items that are often overlooked when purchasing hubs. An inexpensive bearing works well on day one, so it can be an area where hub makers cut costs. With the harsh conditions encountered during cycling, bearings can get contaminated, wear out, and even if you can perform maintenance they never feel like new again. Chris King does things differently! They are the only hub manufacturer we know of that makes their own bearings in-house. Most bearings are generic and function with many different designs, whereas Chris King bearings are purpose built for best performance and longevity in their hubs exclusively. These hand assembled bearings are angular-contact, meaning they allow you to adjust the bearing preload with a simple collar. You don’t want to have your bearings too tight or too loose, so having the ability to adjust this over the life of your hubs is crucial. They are easily user-serviceable without special tools. Simply remove the snap ring and seal, clean, and re-grease and they will roll like new again!
Specifications and Wheel Building Information:
The Boost 6-Bolt front is specifically for “Boost” disc spacing forks with 110x15mm "Boost" axles. Using the larger diameter hubshell bearing the Boost 6-Bolt is designed to tackle rough terrain and aggressive riding such as downhill and enduro. In an evolving landscape of axle specifications, we are confident that the “Boost” disc location is here to stay.
Chris King Boost 6-Bolt front hubs are designed as precision mountain tools. We use one-piece axles to provide a stiff hub with rail accurate steering, transferring every minute adjustment you make to the trail. To thwart mud, water, and contaminants as you power through rough trails, Boost hubs have heavy-duty bearing seals and snaprings, that provide superior protection with ultra low drag.
Our bearings, available in steel and ceramic, have heat-treated, surgical grade steel races that are machined simultaneously, with tools of equal wear to ensure perfectly matched inner and outer races. The quality and speed of our bearings is what sets us apart from the competition and they are what you will feel and notice on every single ride. As Chris King bearing tracks burnish they get faster with age and all our hubs and bearings are fully serviceable for years upon years of demanding use.
